Since graduating from OCA (now OCADU) in 1986\, he has worked with major magazines\, ad clients\, and animated films while exhibiting internationally. His publications include Vellevision\, A Cocktail of Comics and Pictures\, and his latest work\, the graphic memoir I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together which won the 2024 Toronto Book Award. \n\n\n\nTHIS EXHIBIT HAS BEEN EXTENDED – DUE TO THE FOLLOWING EXHIBITION’S CANCELLATION. \n\n\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibition\n\n\n\nToronto\, A Love/Hate Letter takes viewers inside I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together\, Maurice Vellekoop’s most personal work to date. The exhibition explores the evolving relationship between self\, city\, and memory through intricate illustrations and layered storytelling. \n\n\n\nDrawing from his 1970s immigrant upbringing\, Vellekoop captures the insecurities\, awakenings\, and joyful moments that shaped his early years — set against the ever-changing backdrop of Toronto. More than just a setting\, the city becomes a mirror of his own evolution\, reflecting beauty\, frustration\, and contradictions. This exhibition pays tribute to the people and places that leave a mark on us\, revealing how our bond with a city can be as complex and transformative as any relationship
